DCR ⇒ Additively homomorphic encryption
Statement
Under DCR, the Paillier cryptosystem is an IND-CPA-secure PKE that is additively homomorphic: for an RSA modulus and of order divisible by (e.g. ), with and , and encrypts — Pai99. Semantic security of the scheme is equivalent to DCR — Pai99.
Sketch
An encryption of is times a random -th residue, so a DCR challenge embeds as : if is an -th residue, is a fresh encryption of ; if is uniform, is independent of . The reduction runs the IND-CPA adversary once.
Notes
- Damgård–Jurik generalize the scheme to modulus and message space for any , still additively homomorphic and semantically secure under DCR (higher-degree composite residuosity ⇒ additively homomorphic encryption) — DJ01.
- The Paillier cryptosystem admits threshold decryption (DCR ⇒ TPKE) — FPS00.
