DBDH + DLIN ⇒ HIBE
Statement
If decisional bilinear Diffie–Hellman (DBDH) and decision linear (DLIN, the case of -Lin) hold in a symmetric prime-order pairing group, there is an adaptively secure (IND-HIBE-CPA) HIBE of bounded depth in the standard model, with security loss for an adversary making key queries ( DLIN steps and one DBDH step) and no exponential dependence on the depth — Wat09.
Sketch
Dual system encryption, as for the IBE of the same paper: keys and ciphertexts each have a semi-functional form, used only in the proof, such that a semi-functional key fails to decrypt a semi-functional ciphertext while every other combination decrypts. A hybrid makes the challenge ciphertext semi-functional and then the private keys the adversary obtains one at a time, each step under DLIN; in the last game, with every key semi-functional, a DBDH challenge is embedded so that the blinding factor of the message becomes uniform.
Notes
- Dual system encryption in composite-order groups (a product of three primes) gives fully secure HIBE with short ciphertexts under static assumptions — LW10.
